ePub Morning Glory ePub

by Linda Dahl

A well researched book on one of my favorite jazz composers and pianists. The narrative is a bit wooden, but Mary Lou Williams' incredible career makes for a great story on one of the first women to gain respect and acclaim in what was mostly a male-dominated playing field. Williams was an incredibly hard working musician, notorious in the 1950's for the soirees/workshops in her apartment where the young Thelonious Monk and other be-bop legends would drop by to learn from her expansive knowledge of harmony.
