This is probably my favorite piece of nature literature yet. Those who enjoy "nature writers," Paul Brooks is worth a read (especially if you love Thoreau's works but wished he would be less serious). Brooks describes several backpacking trips he took with his wife to very different areas of the U.S and the world in the 1940s-60s, I gather. Brooks incorporates a sense of humor within the descriptions of their trips, but also manages to describe elements of landscape, flora, and flora that leave you with the desire to follow their paths. This is also a good chapter-read - no need to rush on this one, I suggest reading a chapter whenever you feel like you need a dose of nature appreciation.
