ePub The Inlander ePub

by John I.H. Baur

This biography of Charles Burchfield is out of print, gigantic in size (12x9 in!), and was published in the 80's. I found it as a used library book and it was a great find because, although Burchfield is somewhat known more now in 2013, it is hard to find a linear biography of his life. Most books on him are catalogs and have more of a focus on essays and images. It was great to get such a comprehensive window into Burchfield's life here...you can really get a lot of detail about different periods of his life - including abundant journal and letter excerpts. He went through a lot of ups and downs in his work...suffering from long creative blocks and self doubt and discouragement like any artist does. There are also plenty of reproduced paintings that show a range of styles and rates of success, further humanizing him. All-in-all a wonderful read for any Burchfield fan.
