ePub Owl at the Vet ePub

by Helen Nicoll

Owl is rushed to off to the hospital by Meg and Mog after hurting his wing. Mog thought Owl’s wing looked funny, so Mog grabbed her broomstick and placed Owl into her cauldron and flew off to the hospital. After waiting in a long queue, the vet examines Owl and they learn he has a broken wing and has to stay overnight. Mog is asked to help the vet during Owl’s surgery. During Owl’s stay at the hospital he felt unhappy as he did not like his dinner and his wing hurt, he just wanted to get out of there.
I would use this text with key stage one and foundation years readers. It is very simple and an easy read. In a certain way, it is educational as it has a picture of a clock and next to shows the sound it makes ‘Tick tock’ and the sound a telephone makes ‘RING RING.’ This is great for when teaching the younger readers about which sounds relate to which objects. The book is very colourful and full of pictures to keep the young readers entertained. The young readers will also learn the role of a vet and a nurse, in addition, the readers will become familiar with what they wear and gain a better understanding. This text teaches young readers about how going to the hospital is not as frightening as they probably imagine it will be.
